When was the last time you did something for the first time? How did that make you feel? It's exciting when it's an activity you've been looking forward to, and daunting when it's a chore you have to get through, but you've been putting it off for a while.
Here I find myself blogging for the first time. How do I feel? I know anxious isn't the word. I guess because I know at this point I don't have that large of an audience, it's probably going to be my small circle of friends or whoever. If this garners more attention than that, then perhaps I will come back to criticize this post. It's almost comica,l how we are our own worst critics, especially when we don't perform as well we would like, when we do something for the first time. A majority of the time it's because we set unreal expectations for our first experiences.
Whenever I try a recipe for the first time, and it does not look anything like the tutorial I was following, I'm left with charred cookies and a bitter taste in my mouth (pun intended). That taste makes me doubt myself for ever going beyond the norms I'm used to. That's the drawback to first times, the lack of experience and at times not having guidelines to doing whatever it is that lies ahead of you. There's a void of the unknown, that we move into when we enter into uncharted territory. This brings along the fear of the unknown, which can be so gripping .
Take heart dear reader, a lot of the time the first time you're doing something isn't going to be the last time you're doing it. A sagacious roommate of mine always asks me, "What did you learn ?", after I share what happened when I tried something new. As I answer this question, I find that each experience is an opportunity to learn and not to lament if said experience was terrible. When we forfeit the chance to see how we could correct ourselves for the next time, the second time will come and most likely the same mistakes will be repeated and an agonising cycle develops.
If you were to ask me what I've learnt from writing my first blog post, I would have to say it's recognising what others see in me. This is because, I started writing as a result of a friend complimenting me and encouraging me to try this out. I don't know where this will take me, but I know the experience will always be valuable. So my last remark is that you should go ahead and try something new, as long as it's not sin or a health hazard or detrimental in anyway. Go for it try putting milk first before cereal if you haven't you might stumble upon a discovery.
try something new you could learn from. If only l could make that wish. well good luck dear writer
