The itch to do great things
Here is a conversation starter. If you could do anything with the foreknowledge that you won't fail, what would you try? For a second there, whilst trying to answer that question, a spark ignites in a lot of people. Just the fact that for a moment a possibility starts to manifest into reality, one can get so easily carried away in excitement, because of what arbitrarily is in their grasp at the moment. Yet at the same time this flare of passionate daydreaming gets consumed by fear, and the voice that tells us how unfeasible our desires are, because we are not some protagonist in a fictional world.
Where do these answers stem from, I wonder ? When you look back in history, about as far back to the time of serfdoms and landlords. If you were born a peasant you would most likely live as a peasant until the day you stopped breathing. I am sure the average peasant did not think much about a life outside of their peasantry. This being because it's all they ever knew, they did not have as much of the narrative as we have today ,of being able to go beyond where you started out in life. as long as you worked hard enough, or by some stroke of fortune you have a doppelgänger, that is royalty who wants to swap places with you.
I would like to believe that it's to do with more than just whatever stories we heard growing up and the environment around us. Intrinsically, we have something in us that desires to do something out of the ordinary. We all aspire to achieve certain goals in our lives, whatever it may be or the degree of success may vary from person to person, but we all have an accolade we would like to have. There's just something so alluring about pushing oneself, in order to break through barriers and being fruitful in one's pursuits.
I believe that belief plays a major role in this phenom. If you can not believe that you able to do whatever it is you want to achieve, you'll seldom give thought to it, and if you have faith in yourself, the pursuit of your dreams becomes less of a burden. At times the belief may not come from within, it could be a person in your life who sees potential and has faith in your capabilities that cheers you on. At the same time, a lack of belief from both sides can be very deterring. Being surrounded by friends who do not have the same vision as you can be quite the dampener. Which is why you should always check to see if you have healthy catalysts around you, whom you can springboard ideas off of.
There's also the fact of life, that all will not always be equal. Life will not always be fair, and you might not get dealt with the best hand. Sometimes the risks involved really maybe too high for one to take a leap of faith and go after their passions. Perhaps really there are too many factors that are out of your control and all these circumstances that life throws at you. Life never hands you the perfect conditions to go on to do whatever you may be wanting to do. It may slow you down but it should not stop you from trying. If you wrote down the vision you have and you also wrote down the obstacles as well, it aids in placing perspective of things. A lot of the time, problems seem bigger and scarier when they are only in our heads, but when penned on paper, for me especially, the problems do not seem as impossible as they were before.
Often times, people do not usually have an answer to the follow up question as to what it is they maybe doing in order to get to the goal they have in mind. I do not want to go on to berate you my dear readers, because I too am guilty of not actively doing anything a lot of the times, to achieve the plans I have for myself. Is it fear, or laziness, or a lack of focus that keeps me from trying in the first place? Or it's a combination of all these aforementioned factors having a triple threat beatdown on my wishes. My old physics teacher once quoted to me,
"Small strokes fell great oaks."
I can not guarantee you success, however, I can advise that you should make an effort towards that dream you have. It may take longer than expected to get to where you want to, it won't always be as drastic or exciting as you want it to be all the time, it may not even work out in the end. I say, it is better to try and fail, than to be passive about what could potentially alter your reality and that of those around you. So shoot for the moon and if you miss you will land amongst the stars, unless you are venturing into aerospace please don't heed what I said last.
