Being Him
Allow me to engage you in a thought experiment. I want you to envision the best version of yourself. How does that person carry themselves? What's their sense of style? What do they excel in? What makes them different from who you are currently? I remember as a thirteen year old, I came across this concept in my pursuit of becoming more cool. It did not last for long, but I would practice being this cooler version of myself. I would try to walk with the airs that he had, it did feel like I was changing in a way.
Looking on the folly of my youth, I'm reminded that there's something in us that makes us want to be persons that are praiseworthy. When you meet someone you admire, instinctively you want to emulate those things you like about the person. It's a familiar trope in many myths, there's always a character that shines in the chaos of the story. It could be a cowboy in a Western, a gladiator in ancient Rome or a Jedi knight in a galaxy far far away.
Being a male who spends sums of time online. I have come across a fad, where content is being made about being "him". Who is he?, you may ask. He is, as I understand, a male figure who is capable of achieving great feats. He is someone that males can vicariously seek glory through. At times I even proclaim, "I am him" after beating a friend in a video game."He is Him", has become common means to receive laud.
In my case there is a figure that is the center of my admiration. One the most influential if not the most influential person to walk on the face of the earth. The Nazarene carpenter, Yeshua. The most honourable compliment ,I can receive, is to know that I bear resemblance to my Saviour. He lead a life of loving and serving those around Him, He is humility personified.
To me, having my Him moments would be to choose to love in place of hate. To deny self and put the interests of others before my own. That way as people see me in the way a diplomat is a cursor of their country, may it be so that I reflect the character of Jesus.
Amen🙏🏽 May you be like “Him”, the Nazarene carpenter!!
