Much to learn
During a physics lesson, my teacher taught me a valuable lesson. He taught me that somethings can only be learnt by experience. To put it in his own words, " You may be smarter than me, but I have been under the sun longer than you." It's a lesson I remember much clearer than a lot of the concepts of physics I learnt those two years. I am humbled by it because it shows me that there are a lot of things I do not know. Which helps me to draw from those with more experience at this thing called life.
There sure are a lot of ways of acquiring knowledge. Books, podcasts, masterclasses or even using artificial intelligence now. It never does quite measure up to learning from experience. We can theorize and speculate about matters all we want, but unless we get out and do it, can we have say that we have mastered a subject. The beauty about learning in action is that we do not have to always get it right all the time. This being that some of the lessons we gain through experiences come in our shortcomings.
Getting up again after falling, can only be done by actually falling first, and not having it in a notebook. I do not think the experience we get in the pursuit of gaining mastery of certain arts can ever be a waste. Just the fact that we are trying, means that we are developing a muscle memory. The information gets embedded into our minds and bodies, until the skill we acquire becomes second nature. I know not whatever it is you may be seeking to learn but keep seeking.
Discoveries are usually made by those who dare to go out into the unknown. How can you ever find out what you do not know if your environment is always familiar? The stuff that is unwritten is found out when we are out in the playing field. It may even be new things about ourselves that we discover when we put ourselves out there. What I also like, is how at times the discoveries can be unexpected. Through our efforts at times these can be like treats to cheer us on along the way.
This leaves me hopeful. I know that there is a lot that I do not know, as I do life, more things will become clear. More lessons will be learnt, that's exciting to think about as a student of life. Lord willing if He grants me more years. I am looking forward to all that I can learn as a friend, as a professional, maybe as a husband and a father someday , and even as a blogger, there is much to learn.
Experience is definitely the best teacher. Learning for other people’s experiences is wise but nothing sticks to you more than lessons learned from your own experience. Understanding that I don’t know everything and will continue to learn for the rest of my life is very humbling! “ Discoveries are usually made by those who dare to go out into the unknown” really stuck out to me. Rarely do we discover new information or ways of doing things if we stay in the same place or remain close-minded.
ReplyDeleteAlthough experiences are often thought to be instructive, not every fall or mistake necessarily carries a lesson. Sometimes, you just fall, and when you get back up, you continue as before. Not every moment in life is an opportunity to learn. Sometimes, people fall repeatedly and make the same mistakes without learning anything from the process. Mistakes and falls don't always require a lesson; sometimes they are simply exhausting or unnecessarily painful.
ReplyDeleteExperience is valuable only when it is evaluated and interpreted meaningfully. However, seeing every fall as 'instructive' or 'meaningful' can ignore the harsh realities of life. Therefore, assuming that every experience presents an opportunity for growth might be an overly optimistic approach. Sometimes, falling just wears you out, and rather than becoming stronger from the process, you may end up feeling more drained.
