The Silent Code
In the words of the world famous football coach, José Mário dos Santos Mourinho Félix, " If I speak I am in big trouble". This is a philosophy I tend to live by. Words tend to have the ability to stir up people and situations. One may never know to what effect their words may have once they have let them out.
I try to be cautious about the words I speak, because once you have spoken you cannot take back what you have said. When you look at slander as an example, whatever insult you spite a person with, there is some damage done. Although you may apologise, a wound that is healed leaves a scar. Although you may apologise, who knows, to what extent you may have damaged a person's reputation, in the eyes of third parties.
There are so many consequences to the words that come out of our mouths. The writer of the book of Proverbs says, in our tongues is the power to create or destroy. What we say, can lead to positive effects that build up and edify others, yet simultaneously we can also be letting out intangible daggers, that are fatal. It's almost as though with our words, we can shape the course of our reality. In the same fashion as how a kind word could turn your day around, a harsh word could spoil your appetite.
I am left hesitant to use my words, when I think about what they can do. I definitely do not want to harm others with my words. This leads to make as many observations as is necessary before giving an opinion, it has become a habit to be the last to speak in a discussion, in order to inquire first and talk afterwards.
Looking again at the book of Proverbs, it says even the fool looks wise if he remains silent.Who knows how much credibility I have saved myself by staying quiet. May it be so for all of us, that when we break the silence it is with words that are thoughtful, true, kind and appropriate.
Words have power and this is a good reminder that with great power, comes great responsibility. Thanks for this lovely share, Blessing. Stay blessed :)
